E-commerce is seeing a steep rise according to Assocham (Associated Chambers of Commerce & Industry of India). Two metros (Delhi and Mumbai) are driving this growth with each contributing 24% and 20% of the E-sales log on share respectively! It’s very surprising that Bangalore being the IT Hub of the country contributes a very meager 6%.Also the report which we covered out here forecasts that e-commerce will cross 9000 crores by Mar ‘08.
Though e-commerce is rising, grocery shopping is a unique space that hasn’t seen much action online. There have been many online shopping portals which sell consumer durables like Futurebazaar.com , indiaplaza.in and others but none have a menu for grocery shopping online. One may argue why would people shop groceries online? I think why not? I mean stuff like canned foods and eve perishables can be bought online!
