Balaji Hatricks!

May 11, 2008

Lakshmipathy Balaji Image

He is back! Yes, the forgotten figure of Indian Cricket, Lakshmipathy Balaji is back with a bang! It must have been the worst 2-3 years of his life after being out of action due to an injury! Part of The Chennai Super Kings in the IPL, he was the Man who did the damage to the Kings XI Punjab returning with figures of 4-0-24-5 which also included a hatrick - The First in the IPL!!!

The best part was 4 of the 5 wickets were crucial important wickets, the first being Shaun Marsh who was looking dangerous with a 38 ball 58 which included 3 fours and 4 sixes! The next to go was Ramnaresh Sarwan who can take the game away from anytime if he gets his eye in! The were the 2 inportant wickets he had taken in his first spell!

On his comeback spell he had taken the wiket of Irfan Pathan who was looking very very dangerous with a 18 ball 40 which included 3 fours and 3 sixes!!! The next ball saw Piyush Chawla packing his bags!

Next was the hatrick ball. You would have thought that VRV Singh would have a brain that matched his body size, but instead he went for a wild swing which saw him top edge the ball high into the sky which Dhoni had no problems pouching!

That hatrick brought the familiar Wide Smile in Balaji’s face which had been missing for soooo long!

What was to note that being a medium fast bowler, he had bowled throughout in the 95 - 120 kmph mark and never crossed it…. All his wickets were with these slower deliveries! Now isn’t that beautiful!!!

Bhajji Slaps Sreesanth!!!

April 26, 2008

Sreesanth Crying

Harbhajan allegedly slapped Sreesanth after Mumbai Indians lost their IPL match to Kings XI Punjab last night and the paceman was seen bitterly crying on the field reports The Times of India.

Upset over the row between Mumbai Indians stand-in captain Harbhajan Singh and Kings XI Punjab paceman S Sreesanth, Indian Premier League Chairman Lalit Modi on Saturday said it was a “serious matter” and was not good for the cash-rich Twenty20 tournament.

But Modi said the IPL committee would wait for an official report on the matter before deciding about their next action in the issue.

Sreesanth on the other hand has no intention of complaining and says bhajji had apologised to him in the dressing room and that he had the right to do what he did!!!

In my view no matter what, nobody is entitled to physically assault anyone off the field or on it no matter how good a player you are!!!

Pointers to Avoid Credit Card Frauds

April 16, 2008
  • Before throwing credit cards away, ensure that you have cut them up into four. Make sure the magnetic strip (the black strip) behind the card is not left intact since it holds key information that can be misused.

  • There is a critical 3-digit number on the back of the card called CVV (card verification value). The 16-digit card number, expiry date and CVV together, are enough to complete an Internet transaction. Memorize, note-down (elsewhere please, not on the card itself) and blacken the CVV.

  • A card’s magnetic strip has the basic details of the cardholder. But the card also comes with a blank space for you to sign in. Take a minute and sign in. Else anyone who may get your blank card, can sign in and use it.

  • Never ink your credit card PINs on your credit cards! The thief who gets your card would hit a double jackpot – both the card and the PIN in one piece.

  • Carry your cards separately from your wallet, in a zippered compartment, a business card holder, or another small pouch.

  • Always browse through your billing statement. If you are the organised kind, you will keep all charge slips with you and compare them with the bill. If you find that there is some spend that you cannot account for, call your issuing bank and complain.

  • Ask your bank to send you an SMS, a mail, or to call you and alert you every time your card is used if they provide that facility. You don’t have to wait for the billing statement.

Failure - The Only Path to Success

January 21, 2008

They say “Failure is the stepping stone to success!”. Indeed it is!

Success is like “The Final Destination“. To some, this destination is just a block away and to some it may be miles away! No matter how near or far it is we need to get there and one of the ways of getting there is to build a special “vehicle” to reach it. In order to get this “special vehicle” running we require some resource like a fuel. You might be wondering now where in this world am I supposed to find this “Special Fuel” for my “Special Vehicle”. Let me tell you one thing, every failure will have a portion of this special fuel hidden within it. It is up to us to DIG OUT this fuel and run that machine to our destination! So people out there do not get bogged down just because you have failed; but make sure that you keep mining for that special fuel to keep your special vehicle running! You can always view Failure as a Fuel Filling Station on the Highway to Success! And there is never any harm if you ask for a helping hand. So keep aside your ego and go ahead and ask for directions. But beware its again up to you to analyse if the direction given is right or wrong! Even Michael Jordan once said “I’m not afraid to ask anybody anything. Why should I be afraid? My attitude is: Help me; give me direction.” Another thing people that you should never forget is to always keep track of your path to success. If at all there comes a day when you get blown away a few blocks behind, you should always know the way to get back to the very position you were quicker!

So people, all I have got to say is accept failure with an intelligent mind and you will always keep your “machine” running on the highway to Success!

Rise of Online Shopping in India!

October 15, 2007

E-commerce is seeing a steep rise according to Assocham (Associated Chambers of Commerce & Industry of India). Two metros (Delhi and Mumbai) are driving this growth with each contributing 24% and 20% of the E-sales log on share respectively! It’s very surprising that Bangalore being the IT Hub of the country contributes a very meager 6%.Also the report which we covered out here forecasts that e-commerce will cross 9000 crores by Mar ‘08.

Though e-commerce is rising, grocery shopping is a unique space that hasn’t seen much action online. There have been many online shopping portals which sell consumer durables like Futurebazaar.com , indiaplaza.in and others but none have a menu for grocery shopping online. One may argue why would people shop groceries online? I think why not? I mean stuff like canned foods and eve perishables can be bought online! After all tomatoes will look and taste like tomatoes right? Though the quality conscious would still want to touch and smell stuff like tomatoes before buying them but nevertheless there will be those who would prefer buying them online.. (think bachelors and working couples!)

So catering to this very need is a new startup on the rise Storrz.com which is a product of JustOnDemand Technologies Pvt. Ltd, a firm based in Bangalore and claims to be the first Online Shopping Portal in India that allows customers to shop for groceries online and which also provides us with the option of swiping our credit/debit cards at the time of delivery. Besides credit card one can also use SodexHo Meal Passes. Storrz is an online mall which has got a variety of Branded Stores where we can shop from.

For more information you can visit http://www.storrz.com
